EMPLOYEES WELL-BEING CAN BE AN ALL ROUND WIN
When considering reduced claims costs come from preventing collisions, and improved operational efficiency comes from keeping vehicles out of repair workshops the link can be drawn between driver behaviour behind the wheel. Statistics tell us it’s issues such as fatigue, distraction and use of inappropriate speed that are the root causes of collisions, and these all are part of employee behaviour which is affected by well-being.
If we can tackle these common issues, we are then helping to prevent vehicle collisions. If we are managing well-being issues effectively, we can also work towards legal compliance.
Focusing on how we encourage people to manage themselves in terms of well- being and lifestyle, coupled with a change in how we communicate with drivers so to understand what is making people tick, will result in fewer vehicle collisions, more efficiency, less cost and more legal compliance.
For more information we have a Toolbox Talk available which can be supplied by our Health & Wellbeing committee.
BACK TO SCHOOL ROAD SAFETY REMINDER
Remember in roughly 2 weeks all schools will be starting the new term, with sixth form colleges and Universities re-opening a couple of weeks later.
The back-to-school season brings with it a significantly increased risk of road traffic accidents due to the high level of vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist congestion, combined with a rise in frustration from drivers due to the rush hour chaos, can result in more collisions or near misses.
Claims data from the last 8 years shows that during term time, 68% more accidents occur during the morning school run between 8am and 9am. Don’t forget we have our Driving Near Schools and Colleges Toolbox Talk available for you to read & communicate with your Teams. Reminders about using appropriate speed, vehicle manoeuvring and having increased awareness of children travelling to schools on bikes, scooters or on foot, and students travelling to college will help ensure accidents are avoided.
Many thanks
Paul
